About Affettuoso Horns Ensemble
The ensamble originated as a part of Music 20 program at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. It consists of udergraduate and graduate students of Hofstra Music Department under the batton of Dr. Luiza Raab-Pontecorvo. T he group develops its identity becoming independently performing ensemble on Long Island. Constantly working on enriching and expanding its repertoire, they perform variety of Classical to Modern compositions, written for horn quartet, quintet, sextet and septet, and arrangements of many classical, jazz, rag and pop works. Affettuoso Horn Ensemble participates in various events ranging from formal concerts, through special events like weddings, private or corporate parties, fundraising campaigns, to the educational concerts and master-classes.
Warm stage presence, great choice of concert repertoire, young age of the musicians and high level of their performing are only few of the characteristis, which become inspiration for the young generation of horn students on Long Island. Currently they are preparing for Horn event organized in year 2008-9 at Hofstra University, which will involve high school horn students from all over Long Island and will feature Affettuoso Horn Ensemble as a soloist ensemble. The event will consist of horn choir sight reading sessions (for all participants), Affettuoso Horn Ensemble performance, master-class of the guest performer from NY Philharmonic and other surprises.
