Performance Group Classes
Performance Group Classes create great opportunity to gain confidence in performing in semi-formal atmosphere, to hear others perform, learn how to offer and receive constructive critiques in friendly and supportive group setting.

NYSSMA Run Through Class organized only during spring semester gives the opportunity to all NYSSMA students to perform the scales and pieces at the front of each other. Students learn how to deal with pressure of others listening and they have a chance to compare different NYSSMA levels thus becoming more aware of variety of music compositions and levels of difficulty. Class length around 1,5hr; small class fee covers pizza, drinks and snacks after “run through.”

Recitals
A formal recital at the end of each semester gives students an opportunity to share music with an appreciative audience and to show progress they did during the course of the semester. Our January recital, held in a beautiful theater at Jefferson Ferry Community Center was very well attended also by the audience from outside our “music studio families.” It brought lots of joy especially to these students who received special recognitions in form of certificate and prize. Every student may participate in studio recital; however, those students who do not prepare or progress adequately will not be permitted to perform.

Music and Materials
Each student is responsible for his music materials. Certain materials like stuff paper can be purchased in the music office.
NYSSMA music- It is required that each NYSSMA participant provides two originals for the competition. In March the school will place one time order for NYSSMA music. Each student can put his/her name on the list including titles and amount of NYSSMA books to order. This will limit the shipping costs, which will be divided between all the students who purchase music (plus the cost of the ordered books), and will help to avoid the mistakes, when buying music of different editors than required by NYSSMA Committee. Please notice that this one time order is the courtesy of the music studio and after that each student will be responsible for his own music.

Studio Guidelines
It is a pleasure and a privilege to attend music lessons in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere. The following guidelines are necessary in order to create a peaceful, positive teaching and learning space for myself and for my students.

  • Due to insurance and zoning restrictions , only the student(s) attending and one parent or guardian may enter at a time. Only siblings who have back-to-back lessons may wait quietly in the designated waiting area.
  • If you are a parent with a beginner and you have been invited to sit in on their lessons, please do not interrupt the lesson. All your comments are welcomed after the lesson.
  • Do not bring food or drink!!
  • Do not use the telephone inside the music studio, this includes the waiting area.
  • Drop off and pick up children on time and please do not block the driveway or neighboring driveways especially during the hours of group classes.
  • It is strongly advised that each child bring something interesting to keep them occupied while waiting for brothers and sisters to complete their lessons.
Your cooperation is appreciated! Thank you.
